As a spy you're expected to be sneaky and sabotage the enemy. This is what being a spy is all about. For this reason, you need to take advantage of any and all opportunities to do damage. Some of the things that you can do to improve your skills as a spy include being deceptive and patient.

You must take things slow and wait for good opportunities to attack.

Your job is to observe and then take down the enemy from within making them vulnerable so your teammates can win the battle.

It can be very beneficial for you to learn how to disguise yourself as a friendly player. This gives you more opportunities to deceive the enemy and get into position within their lines. This is especially effective when you are traveling. Sometimes you may even allow yourself to be discovered so you can lead the enemy into a trap. It all depends on what is happening at any given time but you do want to do anything that you can to help your team win the battle.

You will find that many times the backstab won't work as well as you hoped it would. This happens but it shouldn't stop you from trying to use it. You just need to keep trying and it will work more often than not. Don't get too frustrated about.

To make a backstab, you need to sneak up behind an enemy player and strike him from behind with your knife. Always make sure there is no one behind you when you do this or you will most likely be discovered. Look for players at the back of the group and work forward.

When you're injured you can cry out for help and the enemy Medics will heal you when you're in disguise. When the opportunity arises take time to recharge your cloak with weapons dropped by the enemy and ammo boxes. It's also suggested that you don't run straight from the enemy line to your targeted location. This would appear odd to the enemy and they will get suspicious. Take a few detours and head in a sideways direction to slowly get to where you're headed.

You do need to decide who will be your target while inside the enemy's line. Watch to see who is doing the most damage to your team and this can help you decide who to take out first. However, it's recommended that you avoid the Pyros as much as possible. This class can cause you many problems.

Look out for people randomly spy-checking throughout the base, especially pyros using their flamethrowers.

Your goal is to not be detected but if you are accidentally discovered and have the opportunity you can try running or hiding until you can cloak and get out of harm's way. You can take on a new disguise while cloaked and this will help to buy you some time until you get to safety.

Don't forget to use hiding places to keep from being detected.

Walls, boxes, corners and even the outside of hallways are good places to stay hidden or travel to avoid being seen or bumped into accidentally.

Be unpredictable and don't do what most people think a spy should do.

Never make close contact with your teammates when in disguise or the enemy will be wondering what's going on and why you're not trying to kill them.

There may be times when disguising as a teammate would be to your advantage. You can lead the enemy in the wrong direction or get them confused so your teammates can take them out.

You don't want to ever ignore your teammates and try to take the enemy out alone. You need to work with them and for the good of the whole team. After your job is done it's time to head back to your team and get healed, refill your cloak and get ready for another adventure.
